Newport songster's CDs raise £1,000 for charity
A singer from Newport has raised more than £1,000 for charity in just over three months by selling his CDs.
Alan Parker, 74, from Lilleshall, produced two CDs of him singing classics to raise the money for four local charities.
The CDs, Alan Parker Sings and Walk With Faith In Your Heart, were sold for £5 each.
His wife, Linda, said they had done really well to sell so many CDs, and thanked everyone who has bought one.
Mrs Parker added: "I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has bought a CD, and to Scadge Studios who helped us record it.
"We haven't done anything like this before and we are pleased it has gone so well."
Mr Parker currently sings with three local choirs, the Shifnal Male Voice Choir, Newport Male Voice Choir and Halfway House Male Voice Choir.
The money raised will be split between Hope House, Severn Hospice, Midlands Air Ambulance and All Saints Church in Castlefields, Shrewsbury.
Mrs Parker said: "We chose the charities because they are all local and the money which will go to the church will be for general repairs.
"We chose that church because it helped me when I became a widow and then it was also the church where me and Alan got married."
The couple started selling the CDs in December and were overwhelmed by the response to help them raise so much money.
The two CDs included classic songs such as Let There Be Peace On Earth and Walk With Faith In Your Heart.
Mrs Parker added: "We are still selling the CDs so we can raise as much money as possible."
