Brian Little MBE, who was commonly known as Vic, died on Saturday morning, aged 84, after losing his battle with oesophageal cancer.

The former RAF helicopter pilot, described as a 'loving family man' by his wife Eileen, is best remembered for introducing the town's first mini-roundabout in Frogmore Road when he was mayor in 1981.

Mrs Little, who herself was town mayor in 1976 and again in 1985, said: "Vic was a lovely man, a true family man and really he dedicated his life to me as well as our four children and three grandchildren.

"He was a man who was used to getting things done. He had a wonderful career in the RAF. He started as an apprentice and trained as a helicopter pilot and was posted to Shawbury so we moved to Market Drayton in 1965.

"He was awarded the MBE through his RAF work. He was a top grade pilot, an A1. He was a very kind man who was popular in the RAF and in the town."

Market Drayton mayor, Steve Glover, said: "I can't emphasise too much the contribution Vic made to the town. Since I have come back to England Vic and his wife Eileen have been very supportive to me. Their legacy in the town is continuing."
