Hopes of a rescue deal for the stricken chain are fading.

The Telford store on the Bridge Retail Park was open for business as usual today until 6.30pm and is due to reopen at 10.30am tomorrow but will then pull down the shutters for the final time at 4.30pm.

Its closure will see the loss of 16 jobs, while Comet's branch in Shrewsbury is also due to close on December 18 with the loss of up to 30 jobs.

A spokesman for Deloitte said the Telford closure was listed on the Comet website and staff in Shrewsbury had been told a provisional date.

He said: "All closure dates are provisional but it is likely the stores in Shrewsbury and Telford will near enough close on the dates the staff have been told."

Sales offering at least 50 per cent off products, except televisions and laptops, have been launched at Telford, Shrewsbury.

They are among the 125 store closures already announced by administrator Deloitte.
