The 23 pupils and three staff from The Priory School in Shrewsbury managed to get a last-minute flight last night despite originally being told it would be Thursday before they could return home.

They became stuck in the city after their scheduled flight was cancelled earlier in the week as the storm battered the east US coast.

Their flight landed shortly after 6.30am today.

Pupils from Idsall School in Shifnal and the Lakelands School in Ellesmere have also been left stranded by the storm.

The Ellesmere group is due back on Thursday.
