Facebook page lets Newport residents air views

A Facebook page has been set up to give residents in Newport the chance to comment on everything that makes them 'mad, sad and glad' about their town.

The page has been created by those behind the Newport Parish Plan and it is hoped comments on the site will help shape the future of the town. Work is under way on the parish plan, which is a blueprint for the next 10 to 15 years.

Each Newport household will be sent a questionnaire to ask them exactly how they want the town to develop.

But before the questionnaire can be created, Mr Boardman wants residents to tell him exactly what issues need to be raised.

Lawrie Boardman, chairman of the steering group behind the parish plan, said: "We now have a group of 13 willing volunteers who have come together to produce a very important document for the town.

"The plan is produced after consultation with the community and will show how they would like their local area and services managed.

"It is a very influential document that will enable Newport Town Council and Telford & Wrekin Council to make decisions based upon the wishes and desires of the community."

To help people suggest topics for the questionnaire the steering committee has set up the new Facebook page and e-mail address.

But for those who prefer to put pen to paper, suggestions can be left in the Book Nook on St Mary Street or in the Guildhall.

Mr Boardman said: "The committee is keen to gain your opinions and views and wish to hear from people on those things that make you mad, sad and glad.
