Thousands of vintage vehicle enthusiasts are expected to descend on Newport this weekend for a popular agricultural show.

The Tern Valley Vintage Machinery Trust's 33rd annual show at Chetwynd Deer Park is on Saturday and Sunday.

The show, which costs about £15,000 to put on, normally takes place Sugnall Park in Eccleshall but organisers have decided to move it to Newport.

There will be more than 100 tractors on show as well as steam engines, classic cars, military vehicles and motorcycles.

Spokesman Dave Coombes said: "It's our first show in Newport and we are excited about it. The Deer Park is a purpose-built place to do shows like this so it makes our life a bit easier.

"We usually get between 4,000 and 5,000 people over the two days and we're hoping for about the same this year. They'll be seven steam engines, between 100 and 150 tractors, mostly vintage, about 100 commercial trucks, classic cars and 30 military tanks and trucks. I think there is something of interest for everyone."

There will be an auction of vintage memorabilia at 11am as well as a fun fair, a craft tent and trade stalls.

At about noon there will be a parade of the vehicles followed by a tractor-pulling contest with contestants challenged to drag a weighted sledge as far as possible.

Entrance is £6 and under-12s go free.

The main entrance to the showground off Edgmond Road is being used as the pedestrian entrance off Chetwynd Road will be closed.
