Bomb disposal experts were called in after a gardener dug up four World War Two grenades at his home in Shropshire.

The man, who does not want to be named, unearthed the grenades in the back garden of his home in Prospect Road, Market Drayton.

Army experts destroyed the grenades in a controlled explosion in a nearby field on Tuesday.

It is not known if the grenades were live.

Police spokesman Richard Ewels said the man reported his unusual find to police, who called in the bomb disposal team.

He said: "There were three hand grenades and one rifle grenade.

"Nobody knows how they got there and we don't know if they were live or not.

"It was quite a shock and quite an unusual find."
