A woman was taken to hospital after a two-car rush-hour smash on a Shropshire road.

The accident closed Shrewsbury Road in Market Drayton for more than an hour yesterday near the junction with the Muller roundabout, at about 7.45am.

The driver, in her 50s, suffered chest pain after the crash involving a silver Seat and a black Toyota, and was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The road was blocked between the A53 junction and Sherwood Crescent until about 9am.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent the community paramedic from Market Drayton and an ambulance to the scene.

Spokesman Chris Kowalik said: "A woman driver in her 50s suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

"A male driver in his 50s also suffered muscular pain but was checked over by a paramedic at the scene and did not need hospital treatment.

"Both had suffered muscular injuries caused by the seat belt."

Spokeswoman for West Mercia Police Maria Wilkinson said the road was closed between the Tern Valley Business Park and the Muller factory.

She said: "A silver Seat and a black Toyota collided and the road was partially blocked due to debris."
