A new Tesco is to open its doors in Shrewsbury this weekend, supermarket bosses have announced.
The Tesco Express store in Ditherington Road will open to customers on Saturday morning on the site of the former Six Bells pub.
Its arrival will result in the closure of a Tesco Express, which is just 200 yards away and also in Ditherington Road, with about 15 members of staff due to transfer.
To help celebrate the arrival of the store, a donation of £500 is to be presented to the Shrewsbury District and Stroke Club.
Tony Fielden, a representative at the charity, will be the guest of honour on the day and will cut the ribbon to mark the store's opening.
Tesco Express store manager George Groves said: "We are delighted to be able to support the Shrewsbury and District Stroke Club, as they do such wonderful work for the local community.
"We are really pleased that Tony is coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us.
"My team and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new store and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community."
The shop will open at 8am with an official opening ceremony and the cheque presentation will take place at 10.30am.
The store will be open seven days a week.
The change in location has been designed to make it easier for customers to access the Tesco Express, with the new store having 12 parking spaces outside.
A spokesman for the supermarket said today that no official date had been finalised for the closure of the existing Tesco store in Ditherington Road, which has been open for 45 years.
