Ludlow Assembly Rooms look to show summer events

Major sporting events such as the London 2012 Olympics and Wimbledon could be screened live at Ludlow Assembly Rooms this summer, it has been revealed.

Staff at the theatre in Mill Street want to show major sporting events as part of a bid to bring in bigger crowds and give the theatre a financial boost.

The plans have been unveiled as part of an application to Shropshire Council for listed building consent for three satellite dishes to be set up on the roof of the iconic building to enable live events to be beamed to audiences in the main auditorium.

In a statement to planning officials at Shropshire Council, a spokesman for the venue said the dishes would not be visible from the street.
