It was a normal day for Carly Sznober when she threw in a load of washing before leaving her Hinstock home in a rush to do the shopping.

But she returned home stunned to find her house flooded. Around £5,000 worth of damage is believed to have been caused to the home she shares with husband Karl and their four children in St Oswald's View. The family of six have lost all family photos and seen furniture wrecked.

They came home to find water gushing out of the front door.

They are having to stay with Mrs Sznober's sister Linda in Salisbury Road, Market Drayton, while the house is repaired.

Mrs Sznober took the children to school at about 8.30am on Monday and did some shopping with her husband and came home at about 3pm to find a pipe had burst on the washing machine.

The carpets, sofas and television were under one foot of water.

The children, Aston, 11, Shane, nine, Katy, six, and Miley who is 11 months old, have all moved into their aunt's home, along with their parents, after discovering all their belongings floating in the lounge.

Mrs Sznober's sister Linda Gough said it was a shock: "There had been no problems with the washing machine before but they got home to find the house flooded. Karl couldn't find the pump to turn it off so the council had to come out and help them.

"Water had probably been running through the home for around seven hours and they've lost everything.

"Apparently a valve had perished and pressure kept building up in the washing machine with water pumping everywhere."

Miss Gough said they had lost sentimental items too: "All the kids' Christmas presents have been ruined, including a Nintendo Wii, and they've lost family photos too.

"They've pretty much got to start again, getting in sofas and other furniture.

"I'd say the damage will cost up to £5,000 to put right."
