Nearly 5,000 properties across Telford were left without power today.

Homes and businesses in Red Lake, Dawley, Dawley Bank and Telford town centre lost their electricity supply at 11am today.

The majority of them had their power restored within an hour but 100 properties were left without electricity for more than three hours.

Power supply bosses said cable damage had caused the problem.

Michael Clarke, spokesman for Western Power Distribution said: "There was an incident in Telford at 11am today which resulted in nearly 5,000 properties being without supply. We understand that it has been caused by third party damage to one of our cables.

"We have managed to restore the vast majority of those and now have about 100 properties still without power. We are hoping all of those properties will have supply back on by 2.15pm."

Mr Clarke said 98 per cent of the properties were back on within the hour.
