A woman in her 20s was airlifted to hospital with multiple injuries after the car she was driving flipped over on the A49 near Ludlow.

The accident happened near the junction with Sheet Road yesterday.

The driver was airlifted to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for treatment for a number of minor injuries.

The passenger in the car, a woman in her 30s, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken by land ambulance to Hereford County Hospital.

The road was blocked after the incident shortly after midday. Queues of traffic stretched back for more than two-and-a-half miles to the Richards Castle turning.

John Hawker, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said both women suffered minor injuries.
