Drug dealers have been warned 'we are watching you' after police launched a fresh campaign to clamp down on the drug menace in Market Drayton.

Officers swooped on an address in the town centre yesterday and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon and drug paraphernalia linked to class A drugs, including scales and tin foil.

No drugs were discovered at the property, however police officers did find a large amount of money and what is believed to have been a police baton.

Following his arrest the man was taken to Market Drayton police station for questioning and later released on bail while investigations continue.

Sergeant Graham Salem, of Market Drayton police, said the operation was a success, despite no drugs being found.

Sgt Salem said: "It was a positive outcome. We found an offensive weapon, believed to have been a police baton, drug paraphernalia such as spoons and scales relating to class A drugs, and a large amount of money."

He added a number of individuals known to police were also watching on at the scene.

Sgt Salem said he wanted to thank members of the public for their support in helping clamp down on the drug issues in the town.

Constable Paul Frank, who took part in the raid, said: "We received information by members of the public and intel gathered by police as well to be able to carry it out.

"We want to raise awareness that when the general public tells us something and we have gathered enough information ourselves, we will do something about the issue.

"We carried out a search of a property in The Burgage on Friday where we had a positive result and plan to carry out more."
