An 11-year-old carer who broke her leg and ankle in a playground accident and continued to care for her mum who suffers from MS has been hailed as an 'absolute superstar'.
Ayse Et was injured in an accident at Newport Junior School last year but refused to let the injuries stop her from supporting her mum Mary. Her dedication has won her new football kit for Newport Girls Athletic under-13s.
Her heart-warming story impressed the judges of a competition run as part of a campaign by national appliance manufacturers Beko.
And she has been praised by her mother and TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher for her efforts. Ms Et said: "My daughter is an absolute superstar. She was so brave after the accident and continued to help me as much as possible.
"She was understandably wary of sports and physical activities when she recovered. She tried dancing and singing but she really wanted to play football.
"I told her to go for it and she hasn't looked back. Ayse now turns out for Newport Girls Athletic under-13s.
"I'm truly amazed at the power of her kick."
Ayse will also attend a week long soccer school to improve her skills next Easter. Alongside the new kit she also won £500 worth of vouchers to be spent on domestic items with Beko.
Ms Et said: "I couldn't believe it when Beko contacted me. This is a great reward for Ayse's bravery and perseverance. Not only does she get a brand new kit for her team and a place on an official soccer school but we've also won a new gas cooker and freezer.
"We can't wait to cook Christmas dinner in our new kitchen."
Ms Gallacher, Beko Mums United ambassador and a Sky Sports presenter, said: "What a truly remarkable young girl. She's an inspiration to kids and adults all over the UK.
"Despite her lack of mobility and the obvious pain she must have endured she was always there for her mum."
