Two Newport schools have been named as 'outstanding' in the Government education watchdog's annual report.

Newport Infant School and Church Aston Infant School were the only ones in Telford & Wrekin to get the top accolade from Ofsted.

Elsewhere in Shropshire, only The Marches School and Technology College, in Oswestry, took the title.

Headteacher Anne Garner, of the 42-pupil Church Aston School, said its success was down to teamwork.

"We like to be innovative but we also believe in the fundamental basics as well."

Newport Infant School headteacher Rebecca Overthrow said: "We are thrilled to be cited in Ofsted's annual report, and feel this is a wonderful accolade for our school. We were equally thrilled that the exceptional behaviour of all our children was recognised, too."

Ofsted praises nine Telford childcare providers, three children's centres and one children's social care provider. In Shropshire, 13 childcare providers, one children's centre and three children's social care providers were said to be outstanding.
