A man in his 40s has been found dead at an address in Market Drayton, police said today. The man, who has not been named, was found dead at a property in Clifford Road yesterday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene to answer a 'concern for safety' call after reports from members of the public.
An eye witness, who asked not to be named, said officers arrived at the address and had to break down the door to gain access to the property.
The witness said people who appeared to be friends of the dead man had been knocking at the door before police arrived.
But he said the door knocking went unanswered and officers had to smash their way in.
The witness said: "Some friends were there trying to get an answer at the front door and then the police came and asked if everything was okay.
"Then the officers started kicking the door in and paramedics arrived too."
Sarah Buxton, West Mercia Police spokeswoman, confirmed officers attended the scene just before 2pm.
She said: "At the present time police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death and inquiries are still ongoing."
The ambulance service was also called but a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said when the crew arrived in Clifford Road they were not needed as the incident had been handed over to police.
Anyone with information about the incident can call police on 0300 333 3000.
