Pensioners in Market Drayton are being urged to watch out for a thief with a limp who thought to be stealing power tools from the homes of elderly residents in the town.

Police said a man in his mid-30s was believed to have taken the tools from vulnerable victims by asking to borrow them but never bringing them back.

The man is described by police as being in his mid-30s, 5ft 10in tall, of medium build, with mousy blond hair and walks with a limp.

Constable Paul Frank said: "People need to be aware of a strange male who is asking residents for the use of their gardening equipment or trying to find out where they live.

"This is an example of opportunist crime where someone is potentially picking vulnerable people in the hope of taking anything worthwhile he thinks he can get."

In the latest incident in Abbey Way, Constable Frank said, a man asked to borrow a hedgecutter from a resident and it has not been returned.
