Ludlow is enjoying a tourism boom with numbers up more than 60 per cent, it has been revealed.

Almost 1,000 a day went to Ludlow Visitor Information Centre in the past two weeks.

And 1,300 extra visitors came to town in July 2011 compared to the same month last year.

In total 5,300 people visited the centre last week compared to 3,288 for the same week last year – a rise of 62 per cent.

The influx of visitors has been put down to the impact of the BBC's Town with Nicholas Crane programme based on Ludlow which aired last week.

Local food, produce and craft markets have also been drawing in tourists and locals, according to delighted tourism chiefs.
