Under-age drinkers caught with alcohol in Shropshire have been threatened with a knock on the door at home by police. The scheme is being piloted in Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Ludlow.

It comes after police revealed that 28 under-age youngsters were caught in possession of alcohol across the county during July, with children as young as 12 seen drinking in public areas.

Constable Scott Smither said the pilot was already showing signs of success and could be rolled out across the whole of Shropshire.

"It's surprising to see how many parents have no idea they are breaking the law by supplying their own kids with alcohol," he added.
