At least one lane leading from Newport Road to the A518 junction remained closed during rush hour traffic this morning.
Mrs Wakefield said: "The white Transit van was in collision with a male pedestrian and we had the call at 6.17am.
"The 35-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and remains in a critical condition in the Princess Royal Hospital."
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "An ambulance was at the scene and conveyed a patient to the Princess Royal Hospital."
