Wolves target Matt Mills is set to meet Reading boss Brian McDermott tomorrow in a bid to clinch his Premier League dream.

The 24-year-old Royals captain is ready to try to engineer his move away from the Championship play-off finalists in as dignified a way as possible after returning from holiday on Friday.

Mills, who has a year left on his contract, has been offered a new deal by Reading understood to be worth almost £20,000 a week.

But although he is settled at Reading, he is ready to turn his back on that to try his luck in the top flight, with Wolves, Blackburn and Stoke all chasing his signature.

It's not yet known where Mills' preferred choice if he manages to get his wish of a move away.

Reading are demanding £4m for Mills.

Wolves still maintain they haven't had a second offer rejected for the former Doncaster man, although sources suggest the bidding has now reached £3.75m for the one-time Manchester City reserve.

Wolves are happy to sit tight and play a waiting game for the player, who has emerged as their chief target to strengthen the heart of their defence with Birmingham understood to be refusing to budge on their demands for Roger Johnson.

Meanwhile, Wolves are cooling on Liverpool left-back Paul Konchesky, with sources saying the deal is now "highly unlikely" to happen.

The 30-year-old is said to earn £37,000-a-week at Anfield, and although he is willing to take a sizeable cut in wages, it's not believed to be enough to tempt Wolves into a £2m deal, a massive drop on the £3.5m the Reds paid Fulham a year ago.

Chelsea have offered Wolves Ryan Bertrand on a season-long loan, and the England under-21 international has also been linked with Premier League newboys Swansea.
