A "prolific" burglar has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison following a string of raids at properties across Shropshire and Staffordshire.

David Nyari, 24, of Willenhall, admitted two counts of burglary and one of being in possession of a stolen vehicle at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday. They included incidents at homes in Hinstock, near Market Drayton, and Church Stretton.

Judge Peter Barrie told Nyari he was taking into consideration about 20 further burglary offences across Shropshire and Staffordshire when sentencing him.

The court heard how Nyari had turned to burglary because he was struggling with a cocaine habit and deliberately targeted properties in rural locations, seeing them as a soft target.
