Campaigners in Newtown have won a year-long battle for work to be carried out to end traffic chaos there.
Powys County Council announced today that work to improve traffic flow on the A483 near the Tesco store would get under way on March7.
Residents and motorists have spent have campaigned for the traffic lights system to be improved outside the store as the town has suffered up to five-mile tailbacks on a near daily basis since the lights were installed.
The work, expected to take up to four weeks, will include adjustments to the layout and detection equipment being installed to monitor traffic flow at the Kerry Road junction.
It is hoped it will improve visibility for vehicles turning right into Kerry Road and improve traffic flow.
The contractors will aim to keep disruption to a minimum, however, there will be some additional delays while the work is carried out.
