Two teenagers have been left with broken bones and severe bruising following a brawl in a Powys town.
Dyfed-Powys Police said today it was investigating an incident of violent disorder and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
A 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital following the incident in Gas Street, Newtown, at 7.30pm on Sunday.
Sian George, communications officer for Dyfed-Powys Police, said it was a serious incident which had involved two groups of men.
She added: "Two youngsters were assaulted, and conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with non life threatening injuries but they did suffer severe bruising and some broken bones."
She said two men had now been arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
"A 40-year-old man and a 38-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of assault and have been bailed pending further police inquiries.
"It is believed that a large number of members of the public were in the area at the time of the assault and we would like to speak to anyone who was there."
