Mr Beard, who suffers from dementia, was last seen by his wife and is believed to have gone out for a walk. Faye Casey, Staffordshire Police spokeswoman, said Mr Beard remained missing today. "Obviously yesterday there was a lot of intensive searching to the immediate locality and we are going to have continuing dedicated local officers concentrated on the investigation," she said. "We are encouraging farmers, landowners and residents to check their outbuildings if they haven't already done so and we are continuing to distribute missing person appeal leaflets as well." Police said Mr Beard had been seen in the Woore area at about 1.40pm on Tuesday.

A mobile police station was parked up in Loggerheads for people to access and a dedicated family liaison officer has been working with Mr Beard's family. Chief inspector Adrian Roberts, from North Staffordshire division, said officers were "extremely concerned".

Mr Beard is described as being white, 5ft 9in tall, well built with grey hair.
