The owners of Good Vibrations said they had already had a few complaints but said the new store was good, clean fun.
The "adult interest" and fancy dress shop is now open in Leg Street.
It will have its official opening on Saturday when visitors can sample some of the products - in the shape of saucy confectionery.
Owner John Galloway said the shop had its first complaint almost as soon as it opened its doors on Monday.
"We expected a few complaints to start with but I am sure people will will soon get used to us being here."
He added: "We think we are tasteful and the council says it is happy with what we are doing."
Mr Galloway's wife Beverley said: "The front of the shop will be a typical fancy dress shop but towards the back of the store there will be the adult themed items."
