Witnesses heard baseball bats hitting each other and a man screaming during an attack in Telford, a court heard.
Sajid Mahmood suffered head, arm and leg injuries in the attack outside his brother's house in Radnor Court, Leegomery, on September 26, 2006.
Zaheer Hussain, 30, of Arleston Avenue, Arleston; Manzer Abdul, 23, of Regent Street, Wellington, and Ansar Mahmood, 29, of Woollam Road, Arleston, all deny assaulting Mr Mahmood, causing him grievous bodily harm.
David Webber told Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday that he was at home in Radnor Court on the night in question.
He said he heard a Golf driving around the cul-de-sac and saw it try to knock Mr Mahmood, of Regent Street, Wellington, down.
Mr Webber said: "Saj started running and men were chasing him. I couldn't see their faces. Some had hoodies over their faces. It looked like some were wearing balaclavas."
Mr Webber said another car arrived and four men started smashing up Mr Mahmood's brother's car with baseball bats. He said the eight men then chased Mr Mahmood.
"Saj had gone down the road by some bollards and that's where I found him after," said Mr Webber. "I could hear bats hitting each other and I could hear him screaming."
Abba Hussain, Mr Mahmood's brother, told the court he also saw the Golf try and run over his brother.
The trial continues.
