The man accused of killing two men in a flat above a fish and chip shop in a Shropshire village appeared before Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday.
26-year-old Sukhdev Singh is charged with the murders of Kulwant Singh Bajwe, 31, and Jaswant Singh Dodar, 30, between December 5 and 8.
The men were found dead in a flat above the Shawbury Fish Bar, Drayton Road, Shawbury, where all three men lived.
A post mortem examination revealed the men died of severe head injuries.
The two victims originally came from India, and arrangements had to be made for a relative to be flown over from the country to identify the body of Mr Dodar, who worked at the Moston Road Fish Bar in Harlescott, Shrewsbury.
Mr Bajwe, who was identified by a relative in England, worked at the Shawbury Fish Bar in Drayton Road, Shawbury.
Shawbury villagers, shocked as news of the murders spread earlier this month, paid tribute to a pair of "nice blokes".
Fred Haberley, who visited the fish bar every day laid flowers at the scene, and said the men who ran the shop were always polite.
"That fish shop will never be the same again, not for me anyway," he told the Shropshire Star this month.
Singh, also known as Dave or Shera, was arrested in Smethwick after a five-day hunt involving more than 100 police officers.
In court yesterday, Singh spoke only to confirm his name through a translator.
Judge Robin Onions adjourned the case until March 10 at a court to be decided, and Singh was remanded in custody.
