Whitchurch and Prees firefighters attended the scene to find the water had spread all the way to the ground floor destroying ceilings and floors.

Sub-officer Mike Beach said: "A main water pipe burst on the second floor in the ceiling which runs along the corridor and the water came through on to the second floor, into several flats and then made its way to the first floor and the ground floor.

"There was a tremendous amount of damage and 13 flats had to be evacuated."

He added: "We helped move the residents into a communal area."
