Funding source is dubious

I know it's not very nice to attack the Labour Party when it's having such a bad time, but it really doesn't seem to be helping itself very much, unless it's to money from dubious sources.

I know it's not very nice to attack the Labour Party when it's having such a bad time, but it really doesn't seem to be helping itself very much, unless it's to money from dubious sources.

Reports state that the Labour Party has received donations from two private equity investors - Nigel Doughty and Sir Ronald Cohen.

I wonder if some of this money will find its way into the coffers Labour candidates here in north Wales, struggling to hold on to their seats in the Assembly?

Apparently these supporters donated £250,000 each to New Labour in 2006. Sir Ronald Cohen reportedly gave £800,000 to Labour.

They have made their fortune from the private equity business - asset stripping by any other name.

What a turnaround that Labour takes money from individuals who have made their fortunes in this way, when many trade unions accuse private equity firms of buying businesses and then discarding employees to make a profit.

Labour tells us that it is happy to take donations from people and organisations who share its values, which speaks for itself. It's time to make a difference and we have the opportunity in May.
