Staff at a Shropshire balloon flight company are celebrating today after being named as a double world record holder.

Virgin Balloon Flights, based at Stafford Park in Telford, have been named in the Guinness World Records after they held a concert more than 6,000ft up in the sky.

The firm has won the title for the "highest concert ever in a hot air balloon" and the "highest song recorded in a hot air balloon".

Rock band The Girls played the gig in the balloon basket for two fans, along with Virgin pilot Mark Simmons. The Girls were also joined by special guests including ex-Massive Attack star Andrew Vowles on turntables - making a total of 16 people in the basket.

Vowles also laid down a track called What I Did Today which became 'the highest song recorded in a hot air balloon'.

Alex Ferguson, Virgin Balloon Flights spokesman from Shrewsbury, said: "It was unlike anything I've ever done."
