Something very strange and spooky is going on at Whittington Castle.

The castle, near Oswestry, has played host all year to vigils and experiments with some of the country's leading paranormal groups.

Castle manager Sue Ellis said: "Their conclusions are that there is definitely something that cannot be explained going on at the castle."

As a follow up staff at the mediaeval fortress will conduct their own ghost tours over the weekends of October 15 and 16, 22 and 23 and 29 and 30 when local youngsters will be helping to bring the stories to life.

The tours have been inspired by the paranormal activity observed during the night vigils, local sightings and local myths and legends.

Sue said: "We held a drama workshop last weekend for local children to develop dramatic stories that could be included in the ghost tours — for example the story of the cursed chest that once stood here at the castle.

"The children have come up with some fantastic characters and stories that they will perform during the tours. I was extremely impressed by their imagination and willingness to act as ghosts."

The tours start at 6.30pm, are approximately 40 minutes long and cost £3 for adults and £2 for children.

"They are suitable for families but all children must be accompanied. They are not suitable for very young as we will be going into very dark rooms," she added.

"We ask people to bring a torch and dress to go outside. as some of the tours takes place outdoors."

Tickets are available from Whittington Castle or phone the castle staff on (01691) 662397.
