Shropshire firm Kuhn introduces new machinery ranges
Following the extension of its semi-mounted single wheel reversible plough range with the introduction of the Multi-Leader in 2012, Shropshire firm Kuhn has introduced a variable width version at SIMA 2013.
Available in six, seven and eight furrow formats, the Vari-Leader is suitable for tractors up to 360 hp, and – with a 110 degree turning radius – has great manoeuvrability on headlands. All models are available with a 35cm-55cm variable width range. The Z-frame design means there is very little wheel overhang during work at field edges and also allows the potential to fit wide tyres of up to 1200mm diameter, thereby offering good carrying capacity.
The Vari-Leader has a large offset range, with the adjustment made by sliding the drawbar to change the wheel spacing between 1.15m and 1.6m. Working depth adjustment is set simply by using spacers on the lift cylinder at the wheel. Underbeam clearance is 80cm and point-to-point clearance 102cm.
All models of the Vari-Leader are available with Kuhn's Non-Stop Hydraulic (NSH) safety system.
The Vari-Leader and Multi-Leader ploughs extend a semi-mounted plough range that already includes the Vari-Timer, Manager, Vari-Manager and Challenger models, suitable for tractors from 80 to 420 hp, with the Challenger available at up to 12 bodies.
Meanwhile the Metris trailed sprayer, with 3,200 or 4,100 litre tank capacity and boom width options from 18 to 36 metres, was shown at SIMA 2013 as the newest entry into the Kuhn range, sitting between the established Grand Large and Oceanis models.
A Kuhn spokesman says: "Many of the beneficial features on the Metris are consistent with other models in a range that has been developing since the acquisition of Blanchard by the Kuhn Group in November 2008.
"Key features common to the range include the injected polyester tank construction, with easily cleanable inner surfaces, and anti-roll tank design. The 450 litre rinsing tank is positioned centrally and at the rear for optimum load distribution, and Kuhn's Equilibra boom suspension system is available for this model.
"The Metris, with a ring-to-axle length of 4.35 metres, is compact and manoeuvrable in the field and – with aluminium boom configurations that allow folding within the machine dimensions – it is convenient to transport. A reversible drawbar enables adaptation for various attachments."
Optional equipment as offered on other Kuhn sprayers includes GPS section control, automated rinsing, a following axle, and boom height control for headlands.
