Shrewsbury Flower Show: Award-winning choir to sing at show

The UK’s premier, award-winning gospel choir are set to the stun the crowds when they perform on the Friday evening of the show.

London Community Gospel Choir

London Community Gospel Choir, now celebrating their 35th anniversary, is now more active than ever.

Initially the idea was for a single concert and this was staged by a 120-strong choir before an audience of more than a thousand people. The performance was a success, and what had started as a one-off event soon matured into a legacy of years of concerts performed worldwide.

From humble beginnings in 1982 the choir has gone on to become Europe’s in-demand gospel choir and the most sort after choir globally for recording performances.

Creating a unique wall of soulful sound that is soothing, memorable and inspirational to the listening ear.

An eclectic mix of culture, age, background, voices and personalities endorses the choir’s rare brand. LCGC regularly grace many of the UK’s greatest stages such as Wembley Stadium (FA Cup Final), the Royal Albert Hall, most arenas and are regulars at Glastonbury Festival.

Being tagged with the title ‘The nation’s favourite choir’ they are the first point of call for the film industry and a variety of “A-list” recording artists have included Madonna, Kylie, Sting, Paul McCartney, Sam Smith, Damon Alban, Luther Vandross, Tina Turner and George Michael.

Film premieres, television and radio appearances as well as theatre collaborations, illustrate the choir’s intention to break boundaries and display true versatility.

Choir leader Bazil Meade’s vision of fusing together his two passions ‘music and faith’ have served tens of thousands of fans well so far.

The future certainly looks bright for the choir.

Andrew Rhodes, chairman of the arena committee said: “The choir is often described as adaptable and flexible and produce dynamic melodies with rich harmonies whether they are performing as an octet or as a 30-strong choir.

“They are known for their funk-flavoured gospel flair, swing-beat, rhythm and blues, traditional and soulful arrangements, with invigorating choreography and stunning vocal gymnastics.

“So their Friday evening performance in the Arena will be very entertaining and we can guarantee something for all tastes in music.”
