Thousands descended upon Telford International Centre this weekend, for a chance to meet big name stars including Bruce Boxleitner of Tron & Babylon 5 fame, Robert Picardo from Star Trek and Stargate, David Blue from Stargate Universe, and Claudia Christian from Babylon 5, to name a few.

Nerds and geeks united to meet their heroes, while decked out in weird and wacky fancy dress.

The cult stars stopped and chatted with the delighted fans, as well as signing autographs for them.

Robert "The Hologram Doctor" Picardo said it had been a "pleasure" to meet local fans.

He said: "It's been an absolutely superb event, it's a really special event of its kind actually, in that it's a much calmer pace and you actually get the opportunity to properly chat with fans. There's no hustle bustle, quick photo opportunity and that's it, you actually get to spend a bit of time with the fans, which I think is just wonderful.

"Telford too is a wonderful place, in particular Ironbridge, some of us got a chance to visit the extraordinary bridge before this weekend's event started. It's astonishing."

David Blue, who starred as Eli Wallace in Stargate Universe, said: "It's been awesome so far, the fans here are incredible, it's been fantastic to have the chance to properly interact with them on a more personal level and Telford itself is beautiful. Can I move here?"

Visitor and self-professed Trekkie Zoe Sayers travelled all the way from Wimbledon to attend the convention.

She said: "It's been absolutely fantastic so far and well worth the travel.

"It's been brilliant to be able to just get our geek on and actually get a chance to chat with the stars. The event has a brilliant feel to it, definitely worth the journey here."

The Out of the Ashes 2.0 event is the fourth year an event of its kind has been running for in Telford and was organised by FCD Events.

The event is held to raise funds for a number of charities including Help For Heroes, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, MIND and Claudia Christian's charity the C3 Foundation.
