Tim Bosley, from Market Drayton, is a self-taught artist who likes to paint pictures of his environment.

Mr Bosley said his job as a postman means he is out in all different weathers which inspire his paintings.

He said: "I have lived in Market Drayton for 20 years and I have been a local postman for more than 10 years.

"Being a postman, I am out in all weathers and at all times of the year.

"You can't help but notice the changing of the seasons, how the light changes and what the weather brings. This inspires my paintings.

"As an artist I am self-taught, other than lessons at school and a short evening class in oil painting.

"I got some instructional books as a way of learning, but I found a lot of them disappointing. So most of whatever I have learned has been through looking, doing, looking and doing again.

"Of course the other way to learn is to look at the masters and try to understand what they were doing and why. I do spend time gazing at reproductions of work by the greats."

Mr Bosley said he now mainly paints scenes from his garden or in the local area in watercolour.

He said: "Having dabbled in oils and some acrylics, I now mainly paint in watercolours. In particular, I love their portability.

"I can get out and paint with a minimum of fuss. I've developed my own way of painting using brush pens – brushes with a reservoir to hold water.

"I've never learnt to lay any particular sort of wash in any particular way. I tend to start off faintly and then from my early dabbling construct the picture in layers. It all seems very natural to me.

"My only wish for these paintings is that they bring some sense of joy to those who take the time to look at them."

The exhibition at Jones's Cafe in High Street, Market Drayton, will run until the end of November.
