In pictures: Norman invasion as re-enactors set up camp in grounds of Whittington Castle
About 300 medieval-mad history buffs have taken up residence at a castle as part of a three-day extravaganza of all things Norman.

Today is the final day of the huge re-enactment event at Whittington Castle, which has included weapon displays, a medieval village and pitched battles.
Members of Historia Normannis, which is a group of enthusiastic re-enactors who have featured in TV programme Weekend Warriors, invaded the castle near Oswestry on Saturday to recreate the rebellion of Fulk Fitzwarine against King John.
The rebellion was sparked by Fitzwarine's claim to the castle being ignored by the King – whose father Henry II had promised to Fulk. The Norman rebels gathered for a confrontation which included a siege engine, skirmishes and a large battle. The rebellion of the young Fitzwarin against King John is a true story. Eventually Fitzwarine was outlawed by the King and took to the forest with his brothers, prompting some to speculate that Fulk was the real Robin Hood.
Sue Ellis, castle manager, said: "It is going really well. We have about 300 Normans and the public have started to come in. The weather is better than we expected which has helped. There is lots going on and it is really quite a fun event. Various things go on throughout the day and there is a major final battle in the afternoon. This is then repeated each day."
She added: "This is our major event and this group comes at the same time each year. We usually have about 500 to 600 people come to the event."
The event has also featured re-enactment stalls, Viking tent, gift stall and tombola.
