Making a splash alongside Russell Kane and Will Young for Sports Relief

The competition is usually a bit more serious for this synchronised swimming champion.

But Zoe Cooper, who lives in Shrewsbury, had plenty of fun taking part in a Sport Relief challenge with comedian Russell Kane and singer Will Young.

Today the swimmer spoke of her experience appearing on the BBC coverage of the fundraiser along with the rest of the Aquabatix team, which trains in Walsall.

She said: "Russell Kane and Pop Idol's Will Young joined us for three training sessions before taking part in the synchro challenge and competing against each other on the night.

"Forming part of the red team which was captained by Freddie Flintoff, I took to the pool with Russell Kane to perform to the well known track by the Pussy Cat Dolls, Gottcha.

"We performed a very up beat, sassy routine which we think represented Russell's personality whilst Will Young choose to swim to the classical piece Bear on the Mountain.

"Russell's artistic flare and humour he brought to the performance gave him the edge, taking the synchronised swimming Sport Relief crown.

"The atmosphere was electric in the London Aquatic Centre and to be part of the winning team again was a dream come true – I was part of the winning team in 2014 with celebrity comedian Patrick Kielty.

"Russell openly said synchronised swimming was one of the hardest things he had ever done."

Zoe appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2012 as part of the synchronised swimming group and has since appeared on Splash! with Olympic diving hero Tom Daley.

The four-piece swimming group made it through to the finals and led to her being asked to model and take part in a number of other projects.

The Sport Relief campaign raised more than £56million with 50 per cent going to causes in the UK, and 50 per cent to transform lives across the world's poorest communities.
