Album review: Rudimental - We are Generation

Rudimental blew people away with the release of their debut album 'Home' back in 2013 - and the big question for me was would the follow-up 'We are Generation' pick up where its predecessor left off.

Well the answer is yes in parts.

The album features guest appearances from Anne-Marie, Ella Eyre, Sinead Harnett, Lianne La Havas, Will Heard, Mahalia, MNEK, Dizzee Rascal, Ed Sheeran, Foy Vance and Bobby Womack, all appearing along the British quartet.

While I generally enjoyed listening to 'We are Generation', for me it really missed the wow factor that 'Home' had.

I saw 'Home' performed by the band at two festivals in 2013/14 and the real blockbuster hits had the crowd bouncing.

With 'We are Generation' there is no real standout track, and non of the collaborations really emulate the musical relationship that the band had with John Newman.

That said I don't think this is a poor record, just a bit middle of the road.

Stand out tracks to give a listen to are "Needn't Speak" with Lianne LaHavas and "Rumour Mill".

Rudimental play the O2 Academy, Birmingham, on March 7.
