Artists who have spent months preparing their work are now proud to see their group's latest collection hang in an exhibition.

The Festival Drayton Centre in Market Drayton is currently exhibiting a selection of work from the Shires' Artists – a small group of creative people from across Shropshire and neighbouring counties.

And the latest collection is titled An Emotion Stirred, a host of paintings showing what emotion gave the artists the prompt to begin their work.

Patricia Hindley, publicity officer for the group, said: "We had a fantastic first night, it was very well attended and we had two sales as well which is great.

"It is a good place to exhibit, I think we will want to return because all the pictures are hung quite low so you can get a really good viewing of them.

"This is the first time we have all had the same focus and it has worked well, but it is something we are going to need to work on as well I think.

"We are both professional and semi-professional artists from all walks of life and we have come together through our love of art and our desire to exhibit our work – it's a lovely thing to be a member of as everyone is so supportive of each other.

"Many of us have been friends for a number of years and others have recently been invited to join this select group but for all of us our common bond is painting.

"We all have our own distinctive styles and work in many different mediums which mean we produce a variety of works from traditional, to contemporary and abstract.

"The paintings always have something to interest the viewers of our exhibitions which we have a had in Stone, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Crewe."

The work will be on show until Monday (MAR 2) and will be open each day at the Festival Drayton Centre.
