Zach Jones has become the latest winner of the annual Broseley Young Citizen of the Year award.

The 17-year-old, who attends William Brookes School sixth form, in Much Wenlock, was presented with the award during a Broseley Town Council meeting.

Zach, who also plays the violin and piano, was also praised for his commitment to Broseley's popular amateur dramatics group, Broads.

Broads has become a family tradition for the Joneses, with Zach's 19-year-old brother, Joseph, and 14-year-old brother, Jacob, also involved in the group.

Zach's mother, Pauline, works the front of house during performances, and his father, Stephen also helps out.

"I've been a member of Broads for 10-years now and we're currently working on a new play for November," said Zach.

"I also work as a peer at William Brookes, helping pupils with their English skills."

Zach, who is currently studying English, Geography and Religious Studies at A-level, hopes to become a Geography teacher.

He received a £60 grant through the J L Edwards Awards scheme, set up by Williams Brookes School, to cycle 100 miles with a friend along the River Severn.

"The award enables students to take part in something they would not normally be able to do," he said.

"We decided to cycle along the River Severn to Ironbridge.

"We donated a small donation to Cancer Research UK in the process and it was great to achieve a personal goal.

"It was tougher than we thought it would be but we were so happy to finish it."

Zach, who said he was honoured to receive young citizen award, said he had no plans to slow down his busy routine.

"I like to make the most of my day and all my activities are placed in a colour-coded chart," he said.

"I want to carry on doing everything I am at the moment, which takes some organisation.

"I want to keep a good balance between my academic work and other aspects of my like.

Broseley Town Mayor Ian Pickles said Zach was a credit to Broseley.

He said: "Zach is a great lad. He is polite, kind and very mature.

"He gives his time freely to all sorts of causes. He is a really active member of Broads and helps the younger members at the youth theatre.

"At William Brookes School he helps younger pupils with their English.

"His mother, Pauline and father, Stephen, are rightly proud of him."
