Market Drayton's Helen to take parachute plunge

She has already jumped off a mountain and hang-glided off a ski slope – now Helen Podmore is preparing to parachute out of a plane in memory of a friend who died in a road traffic accident.

Helen, of Longlsow, near Market Drayton, will do a tandem parachute jump on August 29 in memory of Luke Barrett.

Miss Podmore, 43, will be doing the jump from Tilstock Airfield, near Whitchurch, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity which was close to his heart.

She said:

"I always wanted to do a parachute jump in aid of charity and when Luke died I thought this was my chance.

"I am quite a confident person and am looking forward to it. But I am sure it will phase me when I am about to jump. I am aiming to raise £2,000. I hope I can achieve it.

"I am hoping to get in touch with local companies to ask if they will support me. It is all going to a good cause. Macmillan Cancer Support was close to his heart."

Mr Barrett, from Styche, near Market Drayton, was cycling to work when he was involved in a collision near Nantwich on June 26.
