The J T Hughes Honda and Nissan garage, in Victoria Road, Oswestry, will close on February 1 next year.

Bosses say it will allow the business focus on operations at its three other sites in Shrewsbury, Telford and Newtown.

In a letter to customers, managing director John Hughes said: "Following a review of the business, JT Hughes will be making a significant change to the way it provides sales and service care for our customers. From February 1 the JT Hughes dealership at Oswestry will close.

"We realise this will affect people like you, who use Oswestry for new and used car sales and servicing. However, the business continues to grow at our other dealerships – all of which are gearing up to service our Oswestry customers' needs."

The Victoria Road site currently occupied by the dealership is to be used by a new Lidl shop, which was granted planning permission in October.

JT Hughes had originally planned to relocate to larger premises elsewhere in the town.

It is currently unknown whether staff at the dealership will be found jobs at the other sites or will face redundancy.
