The title of Maddy’s talk is a reference to the Darwin’s most famous 1859 book.

Naturalism is the philosophical position that everything in the world, i.e. the universe including us, is best explained by natural laws and forces rather than the supernatural or superstition. So we do not consider there is sufficient evidence to believe in Gods or an afterlife.

Epicurious, Socrates, Lucretius, Cicero, Charvaka, Confucius, Laozi, Averroes, Al-Razi ,Erasmus, de Montaigne, Baruch Spinoza, David Hume, Voltaire, John Stuart Mill, Thomas Paine and numerous others over the years. Those who have influenced the humanist movement in the last century are too numerous to list here.

Maddy, Humanists UK Heritage Manager, will talk of some of the unsung humanist heroes who fought for our rights and our freedom.
