The 34-year-old has agreed to join the EPL outfit on a multi-year deal after an EIHL career that produced 416 points in 390 appearances.

He arrives with a record that includes spells at Hull, Cardiff and Edinburgh, alongside a Slovenian championship win in 2006.

Tigers head coach Tom Watkins believes Silverthorn's 14-year career in the game will set him out as a leader, both on and off the ice.

He said: "I played against Jason a lot in the Elite League and he has got some good experience. He'll provide leadership and that will be great for the team.

"I have been able to do a lot of research on him and every bit of feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

"As well as the leadership angle, he has got great skating skills. He is a forward who can play centre or wing, but is also very defensively astute.

"I am delighted Jason has agreed to join us. He is in great shape and will be a huge leader for us."

Silverthorn's records in both the EIHL and Canada mean he will be a key part of Watkins's squad next season.

That experience could prove crucial as the Tigers look to lift their first major silverware since 1997.

He added: "Every team that wins trophies needs a lot of leaders and guys who are good in the dressing room. It is always important to have players that get on well and Jason will help to do just that.

"He is a good person for the team, who will do great things on the ice. He'll be comfortable speaking to others and the fact that he has been in the UK so long means he knows the game over here."
