Skipper: Tigers will be all business as usual

Telford Tigers captain Jason Silverthorn insists it's "business as usual" for his players, as they look to secure the English Premier League title this weekend.

Telford need just one point from their games against Peterborough and Basingstoke, to be mathematically certain of winning their first championship in 27 years.

Second-placed Guildford Flames are 11 points adrift of Tigers and would also need to take maximum points to keep the title race alive.

Silverthorn, who moved to Shropshire at the start of this season, believes winning the EPL title could form part of a remarkable year for the club.

He said: "We all know that we are inching closer to the title, but it is business as usual for the guys.

"It's just one part of what our goals are. Winning the league would be a fantastic achievement and is one of the goals we set ourselves at the start of the season.

"When you're playing towards multiple things, you have to stay on an even keel."

Victory this weekend would see Telford remain on course for a triple crown of honours, with a place in the final of the British Challenge Cup also coming up.

That two-legged tie, against Manchester Phoenix, takes place in Altrincham on March 12 and in Telford on March 19.

Silverthorn added: "We'll all want to savour the moment if we win the title and rightly so. But then we've still got to set an example and continue building towards the cup final, then the play-offs.

"My best advice to the players is once the season's over, then that is the time to celebrate fully. Hopefully, we'll be looking back on a really great end to the season."

Last weekend's victory over Manchester Phoenix was watched by one of the biggest crowds at Telford in 17 years, with over 1,000 fans crammed into the ice rink.

The Tigers captain wants a repeat of that atmosphere against Basingstoke on Sunday, saying: "It's important for the guys to play in a facility that is alive.

"When you've got that sort of environment, it is so much fun for the players and a lot more energising."
