Shrewsbury Town CEO Brian Caldwell linked with Scottish FA post
Shrewsbury Town chief executive Brian Caldwell is being linked with the vacant position in the Scottish FA – according to speculation north of the border.
The Scot, who will celebrate two years with the club next Friday, has emerged as a candidate after Stewart Regan stepped down last week.
Caldwell has spent more than two decades in football, beginning at Ayr United before moving to St Mirren.
And former St Mirren chairman Stewart Gilmour believes Town supremo Caldwell is a perfect fit for the national role.
He said: “Brian’s experience is beyond any other candidate who comes to mind. It would be of huge benefit to the SFA to bring in someone who has run a football club or, in Brian’s case, three.”
Caldwell has made a sizeable impact in Shropshire. He has been at the forefront of the club’s landmark safe-standing bid, as well as overseeing Shrews’ return to Sundorne Castle, appointing boss Paul Hurst, the renaming of the Meadow, two pop concerts and an on-site Lidl build. Caldwell is away on a pre-planned holiday and unavailable for comment.
