Wolves winger Helder Costa faces fitness battle

Helder Costa faces a race against time to be fit for Wolves' trip to Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

The winger – one of Wolves' few star performers this season – was taken off at half-time during the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Tuesday.

He suffered an ankle injury after a bad challenge by Bluebirds' full-back Lee Peltier, for which the Cardiff man was booked.

Costa posted a picture on Instagram of his ankle in a protective boot, sparking fears he was set for a lengthy absence.

However it's believed Wolves haven't ruled him out of tomorrow's crunch City Ground clash.

The boot is a machine which contains warm air and is designed to help speed up an injured player's recovery.

Costa, on loan from Benfica for the season, has scored five goals in 21 Wolves appearances to make him joint-top scorer along with David Edwards.

Fellow winger Ola John is also sidelined with a hamstring problem and Jordan Graham is still a few weeks away from making his long-awaited comeback from a knee injury, with Wolves' current injured/unfit list numbering nine, not including Costa.

There are greater hopes that goalkeeper Carl Ikeme will return to action after two weeks out with an Achilles injury.

He returned to training earlier this week, although fellow goalkeeper Andy Lonergan is further away from a return with a knee injury.

Teenager Harry Burgoyne has played in Wolves' last two matches.

Their opponents Forest have injury problems of their own, with star man Henri Lansbury handing Wolves a boost owing to him being ruled out of tomorrow's game.

Wolves have sold out of their 2,000 allocation for the match, in which Paul Lambert's team will look to improve on a miserable run of one win in 12.

Meanwhile, young midfielder Dan McKenna has signed professional terms at Molineux.

The Irishman turned 17 this week and has penned a two-and-a-half year deal.
