Wolves midfielder Conor Coady says the whole squad are behind interim boss Rob Edwards ahead of today's 'huge' game at Blackburn.

Edwards takes charge for the first time with Wolves needing the points to stay clear of the Championship relegation zone.

And Coady said it had been a great week of intensive training under the new temporary boss, after Walter Zenga's sacking on Tuesday.

"Training's been really intensive and tough this week," Coady said. "The boys have been on it.

"Rob is fantastic. He's been here quite a while, he knows the club inside out, he knows the boys and what they can do.

"He's been massive on the fact that if we lose the ball we've got to win it back quickly.

"I enjoy that, as do a lot of the boys.

"He's been massive on what we do when the ball changes. It's not been long sessions, but it's been intensive and a great week.

"We've known him for a while now so we know all about it.

"He tries to play the proper way – he's big on pressing and winning the ball back and then shooting.

"It's important we knew him anyway. He's a fantastic man to take the club forward.

"We've been listening to his ideas. He's a fantastic coach, we see that every day, so it's up to us to put across those ideas on Saturday.

"You can go to him with anything and ask him questions. He's great to have around."

Coady featured in 15 of Zenga's 17 games in charge in all competitions and won praise from the ex-boss for his attitude and commitment.

The 23-year-old said he was sorry to see Zenga go.

"We came in on Tuesday and had a meeting, Kev Thelwell told us what was going on, he spoke really well and that was it," Coady said of how the players found out.

"We were shocked – you always are when a manager leaves.

"But you've got to get your head around it quickly.

"He was a man that you wanted to give your all for and I like to think I did that.

"He was a very passionate man, with the players and the fans.

"We thank him for what he's done and it's up to us now to put things right on the pitch.

"I've been sorry to see him go. We massively respected him but we're all massively behind Rob now."

The players are very familiar with Edwards, who has coached them for the past year.

Have they made the transition to calling him 'gaffer' yet?

Coady said: "We still need to get our head around that! We know him as Rob. But they're getting used to it!"

As for tomorrow's crunch Ewood Park clash, what is the message from Edwards that the team need to be doing better?

"I think the message is that we have played some good football and it is a strange one in terms of that. We need to keep on creating chances and hopefully we do that on Saturday.

"It's huge. Everyone here knows it. Rob knows it. And it's one we need to win, it's as simple as that.

"We can't forget we have played some good football in games this season, like Blues away, Newcastle away and Villa away.

"I think the fans have enjoyed those games. It's up to us to go to Blackburn and give them something to be proud of."
